Pension FAQ
Short answers to the most common questions about the old-age pension, under Ligj 7703/1993.
When can I retire?
It depends on the year you reach the age required under Neni 92 — see the table on the pension age page. Through 2056 that age climbs gradually, towards 67 years.
How many years of insurance do I need?
There is no single figure — each cohort has its own years in its own row of the age table. Early retirement requires the same service, not a separate threshold.
How is the pension amount calculated?
A base sum (the ratio of your own insured years to the years required, multiplied by the social pension) plus 1,0 % for every year of insurance service. The catch: the social pension itself is not a published figure today — see the pension amount page for the full explanation.
Is there a maximum pension?
The law does mention a "maximum" at Neni 97-98, but as a cap on other transitional routes, not as one figure stated plainly there — and this site did not find the article that directly defines the ordinary old-age pension's own ceiling.
Can I retire early, and what does it cost?
Yes, up to 3 vjet before your own age, with a 0,6 % reduction for every month claimed early — and that reduction, unlike some neighbouring systems, stays for life, never resetting at a later age.
